- Why am I getting a connection slower than the capability of my modem?
- If using a 56K modem please be sure that you are attempting to access a number that supports 56k. You can find a listing of the access numbers that support 56k at http://access.sentris.com .
- In addition not all of 56K modems will transfer at 56K. If your modem is x2 you must have the latest v.90 upgrade installed and accessing a v.90 POP in order to transfer at or near to 56K. for more information see: http://www.56k.com/buyer/v90upfaq.shtml
- V.34 modems connect at the best speed they can obtain under present line conditions. Telephone companies do not guarantee that modems will connect at their maximum
rate. At present only 30% of U.S. households have access to phone lines capable of carrying more than 28.8 kbps of traffic.
- It is also possible that your modem is not configured properly. Check your modem manual for the correct initialization string and port speed.
