Domain Pointing

How does Domain Pointing work?
If your website has an IP address associated with it you can use Domain Pointing to point visitors there when they enter http://www. and your domain. An IP Address is a number (e.g. form: 255.255.255.255) used to identify specific computers on the Internet. Enter your website's IP Address and the Domain Manager will point any www domain requests to that IP Address.

How is my Domain Name displayed?
When a visitor enters your domain as part of a web address, they immediately bring up your site. As they click through your website, your domain and the names of each page are displayed as the web address. If they enter your domain followed by a filename as a web address, they will be directed to that specific page.

Technical Notes
Domain pointing resolves only the www hostname for your domain.

What are the Benefits of Domain Pointing?

  • visitors will be directed straight to your IP Address
  • you do not have to move your domain name when you move your website (from one IP Address to another)
  • your domain name is always visible to the public
